A university was opened in Zagreb in 1669 by the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold the first. It is the oldest and now the biggest university in Croatia. The mission of the University is based on scientific and artistic research and aims at sustainable development, artistic creativity and professional work. The course lasts for six years and offers 50 places for their English taught course. Medical studies consist of theoretical foundations of medical science followed by preclinical and clinical studies. Since the conception of the Medical school in Zagreb, over 700 international students have graduated from medical practices.
