Chișinău, also known as Kishinev in Russian, is the capital of Moldova. This city’s origins can be traced back to 1420, however many of the buildings were bombed in World War Two and so many of the buildings that you see today can be attributed to the soviet era. The Bâcu (Byk) River runs alongside the city. The city is considered the cultural centre of Moldova and continues to be an important centre for trade and commerce.
