The Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II founded The University of Naples in 1224, however it wasn’t until much later (1987) that it was renamed after him. Famous theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas is one of the notable alumni. The university has three main departments including science and technology, the department of life sciences and the department of social and human sciences. With an overall student population of 78,000, it is one of the largest universities in Italy.
