The University of Traditional Medicine (UTM) was founded in 1991 and has since become the leading educational institution in the region. In 2001, the university gained accreditation from the Ministry of Education. The ambition of the Profession Education Program at UTM is to prepare medical students with the knowledge, experience and professionalism required to be a highly skilled doctor. The course takes place over 6 years (302 weeks) and students are required to study for 45 hours a week. Theoretical work is combined with practical work. Some of the modules include preventive medicine courses, therapeutic disease training, surgical training and traditional medicine practice.
