Known as ‘Heart of Transylvania’, Cluj is an important historical centre of Romania. Over 2,000 years ago The Romans established a citadel within the city. In later centuries, the city became known for its trade, commerce and education. There are many rich historical sites to visit such as the house where Matthias I Corvinus was born; the Roman Catholic cathedral of St. Michael and the Bánffy Palace. More recently, in 2015 it was named the European Youth Capital.
