Humanitas University of Milan
Humanitas University of Milan is a modern university, founded in 2014 respectively. The university describes itself at the forefront of internationality and technical and educational innovation. Their six year medical programme taught in English admits 180 students annually, 130 of which are awarded to EU residents and 50 to non-EU citizens. The course is taught over 12 semesters and takes a multidisciplinary approach to teaching. This includes interactive teaching on topics such as anatomy, immunology, pathology and disease management, emergency medicine, patient management and forensic medicine amongst many others. In the third year of study, students will interact with patients, therefore Italian classes are recommended.
The Humanitas Research Hospital has state-of-the-art facilities including a simulation centre which recreates medical scenarios such as surgery, anatomy lab and ‘the cube’ which are all designed to train aspiring doctors. Theoretical and practical teaching occurs with methodologies such as Problem Based Learning, Case Method, Concept Maps and Portfolios.The Humanitas Research Hospital, with more than 727 beds, is one of the most modern hospitals in Europe. Both the hospital and the university are located in Rozzano, about 12 km from the centre of Milan.
Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan
Founded in 1996, the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (UniSR) is a private university in Milan. The English taught medical programme was established in 2010 and therefore benefits from modern facilities and teaching methods. There are strong links with nearby hospitals such as the San Raffaele Hospital. According to the university, their ambition is to answer ‘Quid est homo?’ which means ‘what is man?’ with an emphasis on scientific enquiry.
The university benefits from a 10 to 7 student staff ratio and is ranked 1st in Italy according to non-state universities ranking. The international MD programme aims to ‘integrate the fundamental knowledge related to preclinical sciences, with the theoretical-practical, technological and methodological aspects of clinical medicine.’ Speciality subjects include cancer, urology and cardiovascular diseases, heart surgery, HIV / AIDS and rare diseases. Half of the places are reserved for EU citizens and half for non-EU citizens. The student body of the entire university consists of around 2000 students.
The university is located to the North-East of the city and if you wish to stay onsite, there are two student campuses- Cascina Melghera and Cassinella.
